Wintell & Co recently set up shop in Zhejiang province’s Zhoushan and Ningbo cities. The new offices have helped Wintell cement its strategic stronghold in China’s Yangtze River Delta, and have extended its reach to major ports in China’s eastern seaboard.
The Shanghai-headquartered firm opened its Ningbo office last December after it unveiled its Zhoushan branch in southeast Zhejiang in October the same year. The latter outpost has leveraged on China’s new economic initiative in the Zhoushan Archipelago New Area, capitalised on the nation’s ocean resources, and has also spurred trade.
The openings have brought the firm’s total number of offices to five, and this includes its existing branches in Tianjin and Guangzhou.
Alongside these developments, Wintell appointed Patrick Xu Quanzhong as a senior partner effective Jan. 1, 2012. Xu will split his time between the two outposts.
A graduate of Dalian Maritime University, Xu was formerly with the Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration and select law firms in Ningbo. He primarily focuses on maritime, admiralty and insurance legal advisories and commercial disputes, and has substantial experience in maritime casualties, charter parties, shipbuilding, cargo recovery and defence, and limitation of liability for maritime claims.
With more than a dozen partners and 60 legal staff nationwide, Wintell is known for its core practices in maritime and shipping, and corporate and insurance law. The firm is currently bolstering its offerings in capital markets and securities, intellectual property, and real estate advisory. ALB
