Chinese Zhong Lun Law Firm recently took a leap forward by hiring three new partners, and promoting 11 across its offices in the country.

Gu Ping, a New York State attorney and U.S. admitted patent agent, joined the firm’s Beijing office as a dispute resolution partner.  Meanwhile, real estate specialist Ding Jianqing and capital markets lawyer Tan Pengcheng headed to the Guangzhou office as its new partners.

Prior to joining Zhong Lun, Gu was a senior partner at Unitalen Law Office in Beijing. She has also practiced IP law for eight years at Morgan &Finnegan, and Milbank, Tweed Hadley & McCloy in the U.S.

Gu is experienced in all aspects of IP, and has advised on litigation, in addition to the application and licensing of trademarks, patents and copyright. She has represented clients including IBM, Fujitsu, Wachovia and Sony Ericsson in hundreds of IP litigations and investigations at the U.S. federal courts and at the International Trade Commission (ITC).

In addition to IP asset management, Gu advises on IP issues related to cross border financing and mergers and acquisitions. Her areas of focus include computer hardware and software, the Internet, semiconductors, communications and electronics.

Ding left Guangdong Teamwin Law Firm’s partnership to lead Zhong Lun’s Guangzhou real estate practice.

Specialising in capital markets, securities and business litigation, Tan previously worked for King Pound Lawfirm, where he was a partner and a member of the managing board.

Following the lateral recruitments, Zhong Lun announced in a statement that this was the “largest collective promotion in the history of the law firm”. As part of the promotion, IPO and private equity specialist and partner Hu Tingfeng was elevated to senior partner in the firm’s Beijing-based corporate department.

Ten other lawyers, namely Zhou Bin, Mu Song, Sun Wei, Zhang Jiong, Li Hairong, Huang Zhigang, Yao Pingping, Liu Zhixuan, Wang Cheng and Wang Nizhi were elected as partners in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

“These promotions will play a part in improving our specialised development, and upgrading our competitiveness,” the firm said through a statement. ALB
