Stephenson Harwood has recruited ChunFai Lui and Matthew Wong as partners in its Greater China practice as it continues to expand in the region.

Wong, who was previously a corporate partner with Bird & Bird, will be based in Hong Kong where he has been practicing since 1994. Wong is a solicitor qualified in Hong Kong, England, Wales and Australia. He specializes in corporate finance, capital markets, private equity, venture capital, foreign direct investments as well as mergers and acquisitions.

Lui joined the firm from Baker & McKenzie. He has experience in structuring, negotiating and executing mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity, and venture capital deals. He also ensures that these deals have antitrust, as well as regulatory approvals and compliance. He has been advising on regulatory risk issues in China, and formulating strategies for market entrants.

“Their arrivals will further augment our Greater China corporate and corporate finance capability which currently has some 25 lawyers in the region,” Voon Keat Lai, the firm’s managing partner in Greater China, said in a statement.

With these two latest appointments, Stephenson Harwood has increased its headcount in Greater China to 17 partners and 80 fee earners. ALB
