Charmaine Lai, Legal Counsel, Air Liquide

Charmaine is a legal counsel for Air Liquide in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She provides legal advisory to APAC businesses including creation of general legal awareness to all internal teams in particular on procurement related issues. She also handles contract disputes, industrial relations matters, M&As, restructuring and government-related issues. Prior to joining Air Liquide, Charmaine was a legal counsel for a global manufacturing company where she held a regional legal role covering Southeast Asia and the Middle East. She was also a legal associate in a shipping company located in Seoul, Korea handling international arbitration & maritime dispute matters. 

Charmaine graduated with First Class Honours (LL.B) from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. Charmaine also holds another bachelor degree in Political Science and Diplomacy.

Paul Fernandez, Head, Legal & Regulatory, Telenor

Paul Fernandez Legal personality possessing the hybrid dynamism of regional practice experience and corporate counsel involvement currently the Head of Legal & Regulatory for Valyou Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of Telenor) a frontrunner Fintech company that has led the efforts to digitize remittance through e-wallet initiatives in Malaysia with multiple corridors across Asia and the South Pacific.

A strategist with an affable disposition who is certain that legal issues are about recognizing the elephant in the room rather than attempting to sweep it under the rug.

Leah Samson-David, Senior Counsel, Philip Morris International

Leah has spent ten years with Philip Morris International in the Philippines, Switzerland, and now Malaysia. As the head of the Law team in Philip Morris Malaysia, Leah is primarily responsible for counseling the organization to enable growth of the business while managing risks to achieve PMI’s commitment of delivering a smoke-free future.

Sharin Kaur Veriah, Group Chief Legal and Compliance Officer, Fusionex International

As Group Chief Legal and Compliance Officer at Fusionex, Sharin leads the legal team and provides strategic legal advice to the stakeholders and management teams within the Group.

In this capacity, Sharin also aids the Group in overseeing all contractual matters and negotiations, while simultaneously identifying, managing and minimising the potential legal risks of the Group. Sharin works with her team to support the various internal departments and key stakeholders across the business.

In addition, she ensures legal compliance throughout the business and maintains the business’s integrity both internally and externally. Furthermore, Sharin's role merges with the operational aspects of the business where she works hand-in-hand with the various department heads to make certain that the business of the Group as a whole runs smoothly.

Maria Agustin, General Counsel (Southeast Asia and India Operation), bolttech Device Protection

Within her role as the general counsel of bolttech Device Protection group companies (Southeast Asia and India), Maria is primarily responsible for inventing legal strategy suitable for the group to achieve business growth (or market demand) including to secure support from local regulator, managing legal/compliance risk involved, advising various stakeholders, and leading strategic transactions (M&A). 

Maria’s responsibility also include contract negotiations in relation to strategic pipeline of the group, and overseeing legal & compliance operation in each market.

Maria’s specialty is structure engineering, and M&A involving financial services industry including fintech

Diana Idris, Head of Legal, Indah Water Konsortium 

As the Head of Legal, Diana is a core member of the senior management team and offers advice not just on law and related matters but helps shape discussion and debate around business issues. 

Diana currently leads the legal affairs of Indah Water Konsortium, the Malaysian national wastewater and sanitation company. She oversees a pool of team providing timely legal advice on policy issues, collection, develop legal consensus solutions and promotes and defends the Company’s legal interest in numerous internal and external venues. 

Diana has more than 15 years of high level legal and transaction experience in concessions, infrastructure, mergers & acquisitions, corporate governance, litigation, compliance and law department management. She have led legal operations and external counsel in Middle- East, Philippines, Indonesia and Hong Kong.
