After losing senior counsel David Tang to AllBright in June this year, the firm has lost key partner and co-chair of its international arbitration practice Meg Utterback to King & Wood’s Shanghai office.
Utterback has over 19 years of dispute resolution and international arbitration experience, mostly in construction and energy matters. She has handled over 40 jury and bench trials in the US and has represented clients in arbitrations before the ICC, CIETAC, SIAC and the Indian Council of Arbitration.
Utterback joined Pillsbury in October 2008 when the firm acquired Thelen Reid & Priest’s Shanghai office and was most recently managing partner for Beijing. She joined the firm along with fellow Thelen Reid partner Thomas Shoesmith, who is now a partner in the firm’s corporate and securities group and head of China practice.
Pillsbury’s key players have recently become targets for domestic firms, with senior counsel David Tang leaving the practice after recognising the broader scope of growth and better opportunities at domestic firms. ALB
