Australian law firm Blake Dawson has appointed former Freshfields lawyer Michael Sheng as a partner in its Shanghai office.

Sheng, whose  experience includes advising Chinese companies on offshore investments, cross-border transactions, China-related foreign investment and M&A, has acted for clients across a wide range of industries, including resources, manufacturing, real estate, financial institutions, insurance, pharmaceutical, medical devices and technology companies. Bill Reid, head of the firm’s Asia practice, said Sheng will help the firm capitalise on increasing deal flows between Australia and China.

Sheng’s appointment increases the number of partners in the firm’s Shanghai office to two. Michael Wadely, the other partner, is head of the firm’s China practice. ALB
