Shearman & Sterling has hired partner Sean Xiaogang Wang from the Beijing office of White & Case. Wang, a project finance specialist with Chinese, U.S. and global experience, will be based at Shearman’s Shanghai office.

Wang is a PRC national, bilingual in Mandarin and English, and dually qualified in both China and New York. He has worked on numerous project developments and financing transactions in China, the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean. Additionally, he has extensive experience of representing financial institution clients on their China investments, and working with Chinese financial institutions on their outbound investments.

Commenting on his newest team member, the head of the firm’s China project finance practice, Shanghai-based partner Andrew Ruff, said: "Sean will round out our strong capabilities in China and, more broadly, throughout Asia. His experience is very complementary to our current portfolio of work, and we see significant opportunities to broaden our offering to our clients."

Wang’s hiring follows the recent joining of project finance partner John Inglis at the firm’s London office. Inglis was formerly an energy partner at Ashurst. The two newest additions are part of the firm’s strategy to bolster and expand its global projects practice.

"This is a very interesting time for China project finance initiatives," Wang said. "There are opportunities and challenges, and I am confident that our new, expanded team in China will be prepared to deliver strong results for the firm's clients." ALB
