The Hong Kong office of US firm Proskauer Rose has been bolstered with a series of new appointments in recent months.
Seung Chong and Jeremy Leifer, who were formerly partners of White & Case, have joined Proskauer as partners, and take the total number of partners at Proskauer Hong Kong office to six.
Both of Chong and Leifer focus on cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M & A), and have represented a large number of Asian and western companies on their M & A, private equity and other China-related investments. Chong and Leifer are widely recognised as one of the region’s best deal teams and boast an impressive deal list.
Chong, for instance, advised Ping An Insurance Group and TPV Technology on their billion-dollar M&A transactions. Leifer, a dual English and Hong Kong-qualified lawyer, has acted for Hong Kong telecommunications PCCW on its US$ 2.06 billion refinance, and Greentown China Holding on its US$ 400 million senior notes offering.
In addition to the appointments of Chong and Leifer, the firm appointed Gene Butrill, formerly of DLA Piper, as a partner in its capital markets practice. The firm also lured former Ropes & Gray associate, Jay Tai, to strengthen its private equity practice. ALB
