Beijing-headquartered Tian Yuan Law Firm's Hong Kong associate firm will hire capital markets expert Nan Li as a partner in Hong Kong from Paul Hastings, where he is a chief representative of the Beijing office. Li will be officially on board next week.
During his stint at Paul Hastings, Li led a number of large initial public offerings, including Chinese vaccine company CanSinoBIO's $160 million global offering and Hong Kong Stock Exchange IPO and listing in March 2019, and Midea Real Estate’s $392 million Hong Kong IPO in October 2018.
Last August, he and Steve Winegar, former chair of Paul Hastings’ Hong Kong office and now Ping An Insurance Group’s international general counsel, co-advised Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and China Merchant Securities as the joint sponsors in Ascletis Pharma’s $400 million global offering and Hong Kong IPO, the first biotechnology company listing on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under Chapter 18A.
Prior to joining Paul Hastings, Li worked in the Hong Kong office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer for many years and became a partner in 2013.
According to some insiders, Li will bring with him six lawyers from Paul Hastings’ Beijing office who specialize in Hong Kong capital markets transactions.
The firm has also hired Teresa Chu as a counsel to handle the firm’s Chinese clients’ general Hong Kong corporate and commercial law needs.
Tian Yuan opened its Hong Kong office in 2016, and added Hong Kong law capability the next year after entering into an association with local firm William Ji & Co, which was set up by a former Shearman & Sterling lawyer.

总部位于北京的天元律师事务所香港联营所预计下周将迎来资本市场业务合伙人李竟弘律师的正式加入。李律师目前是美国普衡律师事务所权益合伙人及北京办公室的首席代表。
在普衡执业期间，李竟弘律师主导了大量重大上市交易，包括今年3月代表康希诺生物在香港联交所主板上市，以及去年10月代表美的置业在香港联交所以3.92亿美元挂牌上市。
去年8月，李竟弘律师与韦嘉律师代表摩根士丹利、高盛及招商证券作为联席保荐人，共同主导完成歌礼制药的4亿美元全球发行以及在香港联合交易所的首次公开发行。此次交易是首家根据2018年4月生效的新上市规则第十八A章在香港证券交易所主板上市的生物科技公司。韦嘉律师曾担任美国普衡律师事务所香港办公室主席，目前在中国保险业巨头平安保险担任其国际业务总法律顾问。
加入普衡前，李竟弘律师曾在英国富而德律师事务所香港办公室执业多年，并于2013年升为合伙人。
据悉，普衡北京办公室6位专注于香港资本市场交易的律师也将随李竟弘律师一同加盟天元。
同期，Teresa Chu将作为顾问加入天元，主要负责处理中国客户在香港涉及的公司法及商法方面的法律需求。
天元香港办公室于2016年设立，次年与香港本地律所纪晓东律师行建立联营关系，开始具备在香港为客户提供香港法律业务的资格和能力。纪晓东律师行由谢尔曼•思特灵律师事务所前律师设立。
