Winston & Strawn has hired Terence Wong as a dispute resolution partner in the firm’s Hong Kong and Shanghai offices from Hogan Lovells.

Wong, who joined in October after more than 17 years at Hogan Lovells in Shanghai, focuses on international arbitration. He is a member of the panel of arbitrators at the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration, the Shanghai International Court of Arbitration, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, and the Shanghai Arbitration Commission.

“China’s ever-stronger investment presence, including the Belt and Road initiative, makes Terence an exciting hire for us,” said David Hall-Jones, Winston’s Asia managing partner, in a statement. “His successful track record, particularly in representing clients in contentious matters in China, will make him a strong asset to our practice.”

Wong’s appointment comes as Winston consolidated its Greater China offices, closing its offices in Beijing and Taipei in May. Tom Fitzgerald, the firm’s chairman, told ALB in August: “What we’ve concluded is that we’re better off focusing on disputes and transactional work in both Hong Kong and Shanghai.”

Winston has 18 lawyers in its Hong Kong and Shanghai offices, including seven partners.
