Justice A S Aguiar, Former Judge, Bombay High Court and Executive Chairman of the Goa State Legal Services Authority
Justice Aloysius Stanislaus Aguiar, B.A., LL.B. : Was born on October 8, 1943. He was enrolled as an Advocate on August 14, 1969 by the Bar council of Maharashtra. Thereafter, he signed Articles of Clerkship with a firm of Solicitors. He passed Solicitors' Articleds Clerk's Examination in 1976 and, thereafter, functioned as Advocate/Solicitor's Assistant for short periods. He started independent practice in 1984. He was appointed as Judge, Bombay City Civil Court and Additional Sessions Judge, Greater Bombay with effect from September 11,1987. He also functioned as Special Judge for Greater Bombay under the Prevention of Corruption Act from 1993 to 1996. Thereafter, he has functioned as Additional Principal Judge and Principal Judge, City Civil Court & Sessions Judge. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on March 28, 2001 and further extension up to March 28, 2005. Retired on October 8, 2005.

Dr. Akhil Prasad is Director, Country Counsel India and Company Secretary with Boeing India and is based at New Delhi. Dr Prasad has also headed legal functions in India of Fidelity, The Walt Disney Company, General Motors, Electrolux and Xerox and has about over 25 years’ experience as an In-house Counsel.
Akhil holds a Doctorate in Law, Doctorate in Commerce; LL.M – India; Fellow Member of the ICSI (FCS) and the ICSA, UK (FCIS); non-practicing Solicitor of England & Wales; LL.M from the Northwestern University, Chicago and Certificate in Business Administration from IE University, Madrid, Spain (IE); and Wharton Advanced Management Program.

Anupam Sharan

He is a senior attorney managing strategic legal, contractual and commercial programs globally for over $4 Billion spend per annum. Anupriya Garg

Anupriya Garg is Masters in Laws, MBA and Company Secretary with experience in corporate laws for more than 16 years. Currently she is working as the Head of Legal and Company Secretary in Transrail Lighting Limited an Indian MNC into tower manufacturing and Power and Transmission business. The Company is having its footprints in more than 39 countries.
Prior to this she has worked in Indian Government as Head Legal in Noida Metro Rail Corporation a JV of State government and Central Government with more than INR 10,000 crores project of 29.7 kms metro line and city bus service right from its inception and taking care of all their legal and corporate affairs matters and dealing with top bureaucrats . The city bus service was awarded “the best project India Recognition award" at Montreal, Canada at UITP global summit of Urban Public Transport in May 2017. It was further conferred with a special award under the category “Best City Bus Service Project” for best practice projects in urban transport. The award has been given by the Government of India,Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Bhumesh Verma

Bhumesh is the Managing Partner of Corp Comm Legal, an independent Indian law firm headquartered in New Delhi.
Having started his career at Ajay Bahl & Co. (now part of AZB & Partners), Bhumesh went on to work with some of the best law firms in India. He received the coveted Chevening Scholarship by the UK Government in 2000 whereunder he studied in College of Law, York and was a visiting lawyer with Ashursts’ London office. Later in his career, he became partner at some of the leading Indian law firms including Khaitan & Co., Paras Kuhad & Associates and Link Legal.

Divya Kumat

Divya Kumat is the EVP-Chief Legal Officer & Company Secretary at Datamatics for more than 15 years. She leads all legal and secretarial initiatives for more than 30 group companies in India and overseas and is a key player in all in-organic initiatives of the group like joint venture collaborations, mergers, acquisitions, and amalgamation in India and overseas. She is credited with formulating and enforcing several legally binding policies and frameworks including the Contract Management Policy, Insider Trading Policy, Whistle-Blower policy, and Investor Grievance policy, to name a few. The legal team has successfully secured various copyrights, trademarks and service mark registrations thereby enhancing the company’s IPR wealth.
Divya brings with her over 23 years of rich and diverse experience, having held prominent legal and secretarial positions for leading corporations. Prior to joining Datamatics, she was the Legal Head at Computer Sciences Corporation (India).

Debolina Partap
General Counsel and Vice President Legal, Wockhardt
Debolina is a Gold Medalist in masters of law and has 25 years of experience in banking, finance, pharma and healthcare. She is responsible for M&As, transactions management, IP and Litigation Management, legal compliance, all corporate legal work, properties and real estate management, amongst others. She advises top management on legal risks to the organization. Her main achievements come in handling complex M&A deals on the buy as well as sell side, high stake real estate arbitrations, international regulatory and commercial litigations and settling complicated insolvency petitions filed against Wockhardt Limited as also, settling intricate derivatives suits filed against Wockhardt group globally. She is also handling legal issues pertaining to complex and composite global regulatory matters concerning Wockhardt Group. She is one of the few general counsels globally who handle forensics and data analytics. She and her team have won over 75 awards from Internationally and Nationally recognized legal organizations.
Garima Nahar
General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, Eight Capital
Garima is the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Eight Capital. Garima is a legal professional having over fifteen years of diverse experience in various banking and financial transactions. Prior to joining Eight Capital, she worked as the General Counsel at IIFL Finance. She was instrumental in setting up the legal team at IIFL focusing on NBFC business and strategy.
Garima was a Member on the ESG Committee of the Board of IIFL Finance and acted as Chief ESG Coordinator and Chief Anti Corruption Officer. She was instrumental to create Environmental, Social and Governance framework and policies at IIFL and played a key role in delivering additional value from E&S improvements perspective across different portfolio at IIFL.
Garima also worked with ICICI Bank at Corporate Legal Advisory as Senior Group Head and with Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP at New York. Jayadeep Balakrishnan

Between the period of 1980 - 1995 he practiced as an Advocate in the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, Supreme Court of India and District Courts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh in various fields i.e. Civil, Criminal, Constitutional and Local Laws.
He also Practiced on the Original Side before the Civil Courts, Criminal Courts, District Courts and Administrative Tribunals and various Vigilance and Departmental Inquiries.
- Selected as Additional District and Sessions Judge on 01.08.1995 and remained posted in different Districts in the State of Punjab, i.e. District Sangrur (from 1995 to 1998), District Moga (from 1998 to March 2001).
- Designated as Special Judge under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act,1985

Parul Kashyap

As head of legal & secretarial function and an Executive Committee (EXCOM) member of ACC, Rajiv is responsible for advising the management of all key legal issues related to the entire gamut of business activities of ACC (mining, environment, corporate commercial, IPR, industrial & labour laws etc.) including, Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC).
Rajiv has more than two decades of experience in manufacturing as well as IT Company. Rohit is the Global General Counsel of UPL Limited, one of the largest crop protection products company in the world with revenues of close to US$5 billion. He is based out of UPL’s corporate head office in Mumbai. Rohit leads a team of more than 40 in-house lawyers. Close to 50% of his team members are based outside of India, including 4 in the U.S.A., 5 in Europe and 5 in Brazil. Rohit overseeing all aspects of legal work relating to the group.
Rohit is a law graduate (2002 batch) from Symbiosis Law College, Pune, India and has also completed a leadership in corporate counsel course from Harvard Law School in 2017.

Dr. Sanjeev Gemawat is a General Counsel and Corporate Secretary; a thought leader and a strategist with business orientation. He is also a chartered secretary from UK, a chartered accountant and a cost & management accountant.
Dr. Gemawat has almost three decades of experience spanning through varied industries. He is presently working as Executive Director – Legal and Group Company Secretary with Dalmia Bharat Group – a conglomerate that carries a legacy of over 75 years and having presence in cement, sugar, refractories and power businesses. In the past he has been associated with leading groups like DLF, JCB, Olivetti, GBC, Modicorp etc.

Sheetal is currently working with Netflix as the company’s Senior Counsel and Director-Legal. At Netflix, she is involved in lead business partnerships and transactions. Prior to joining Netflix, Sheetal was working at Google where she advised on structuring products for the Indian and West Asian markets. Her work involved dealing with privacy and data protection, regulatory liaisoning/licensing, M&A, FinTech & payments projects, geographic projects, telecom & broadcasting projects, and various other government-led initiatives. Sheetal moved to Google from PayU where she was working as Head - Legal, Regulatory and Compliance. She has also worked in the Private Equity and M&A team at J. Sagar Associates.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ELIGIBILITY
How do I know if I am eligible to make a submission?
We highly encourage all firms, individuals and in-house teams to submit, as we have numerous award categories to choose from. We welcome both past participants and newcomers to join the submission for the awards.
Is self-nomination permitted?
Yes, we accept self-nominated submissions. We also accept third-party submissions, should you wish to nominate an external party or vice versa.
Is there a fee required to make a submission in the law awards?
No, there is no fee payment required for you or your firm/team to make a submission.
TIMELINE OF EVENTS
When will the finalists and winners be announced?
The shortlist of finalists will be released around 4-8 weeks prior to the awards ceremony. The winners will be exclusively announced at the awards ceremony in February 2020 in Mumbai.
When do the submissions open? When is the deadline to submit?

NOMINATION PROCESS AND ASSESSMENT
How are the finalists chosen?
Asian Legal Business will compile all of the submission entries, and the ALB editorial and research teams will extensively review each submission to ensure the criteria are met in order to advance to the shortlist of finalists. We stress that this process is fair, impartial and not subject to external influences.
How are the winners chosen?
Once the shortlist of finalists have been announced, an independent judging panel will review and select their top three choices for the award categories they are assigned to. The scores for each award category will be tabulated, and the individual/firm/team with the highest score will be announced as the winner.
What are the award categories that I can take part in?
Any law firms, in-house teams or individuals may take part in multiple award categories if appropriate. The award categories are subject to change at the discretion of ALB. The researchers reserve the right to move entries from one category to another if they feel it appropriate. The researchers’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Who will be on the judging panel for ALB India Law Awards 2020?
There will be an independent judging panel of at least 30 senior and expert legal industry leaders to review the submission materials. The judging panel will be selected on the basis of their expertise and knowledge, and will be comprised from various sectors to correspond to the diverse list of award categories. A partial list of judges’ names will be released prior to the awarding ceremony, and the remaining judges will be revealed on the evening of the awards.
What will my contact information/my client’s information be used for?
All contact information provided will not be disclosed to external parties; and will only be seen by our ALB research team and the judges panel. We keep the information on record internally, in case we need to contact you or your client regarding any questions or discrepancies in the submission form.
Where will my name/firm name/team name be published if we are a finalist or winner?
As a finalist and/or winner, your firm/team/individual name will be published in ALB awards materials and print magazine. For more information, please contact us.
Is my submission confidential?
Any information you submit will only be reviewed by the ALB team and independent judging panel, whose names will be published. The material submitted will only be disclosed to the above; if there is any information that is strictly confidential, please mark clearly on the nomination form. Though we do our best to maintain the security of the information you provide, any information you transmit to us is done at your own risk and Thomson Reuters is not responsible for any unauthorized transmission of information.
