Wai Ming Yap (Wai Ming) was admitted to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Singapore in 1987 and to the High Court of Malaya (Malaysia) in 1993.
Wai Ming was a member of several law firms before joining Stamford Law Corporation (now known as Morgan Lewis Stamford LLC) in 2002.
Wai Ming Yap advises corporate clients on mergers and acquisitions, project finance, equity and debt capital markets (including Islamic finance), as well as gaming and leisure transactions. He also acts as a sponsor to issuers on Catalist, the sponsor-supervised board of The Singapore Exchange (SGX).
Wai Ming’s dedicated and practical approach to guiding clients’ multi-faceted corporate transactions has earned him recognition by legal industry publications. IFLR1000, Legal 500, Asialaw Leading Lawyers, Best Lawyers in Singapore and Chambers Asia-Pacific have ranked him as a leading lawyer in mergers and acquisitions in Asia. Chambers Global and Chambers Asia-Pacific also recognized him as a leading lawyer in gaming and gambling law in the Asia-Pacific region.
Wai Ming is an author of several articles on corporate law, as well as gaming-related papers. He sits on the editorial board of Gaming Law Review and Economics and is the editor of Asian Gaming Lawyer: Gambling Legal Developments in Asia Pacific. He served as the Secretary -
General of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association. He is also the Singapore member of the International Masters of Gaming Law. He also serves on the boards of a number of charities in Singapore, namely Ren Ci Hospital, the SingHealth Foundation, and Tan Tock Seng Hospital Community Charity Fund.

METHODOLOGY SUMMARY
Part I
GENERAL GUIDELINES
A. All nominations must be written in the ALB nomination form. The same must be submitted not later than April 6, 2015. ALB will not accept entries written in any other forms.
B. Entries for any categories must have been completed in 2014.
C. Documents supplementary to the information provided in the nomination form may be submitted in Word file within the nomination period. No supplementary information will be accepted after the nomination deadline.
D. A third-party nomination for In-House Lawyer of the Year or Managing Partner of the Year can be considered only when the nominee's in-house team or law firm has not nominated for such individual category.
Part II
DEFINITION OF TERMS
For purposes of this Awards, unless the context otherwise requires -
"breadth" means the degree to which the work spanned different jurisdictions, practice areas, parties and industries;
"complexity" means the degree to which the work requires intricate legal principles or advanced techniques and structures;
"impact or significance" means the degree by which the stakeholders, the bench and bar or the SE Asian community at large is affected;
"improvement" means the degree to which the work involved improved techniques and structures;
"innovation" means the degree to which the work involved original techniques and structures or innovative legal rules or regulations;
"SE Asian element" means any or all of the following: (a) one of the law firms involved must be based in SE Asia; (b) one of the parties to the deal must be based in SE Asia; (c) the contract/deal was executed/completed in SE Asia; or (d) the contract/deal must, in any way, be related to SE Asia;
"third-party award/recognition" includes that which is given by any award-giving organisation, public or private, other than ALB; and
"work" includes any transactions/deals/projects completed, cases handled, disputes settled and other legal services provided within the organisation or otherwise.

(1) Specific Guidelines
a. A deal must have some SE Asian element.
b. An organisation may submit up to three deals with a minimum financial value (MFV) of USD1 billion each, for the following categories:
1. Asset and Corporate Finance Deal of the Year
2. Debt Market Deal of the Year;
3. Islamic Finance Deal of the Year; and
4. Project Finance Deal of the Year.
c. An organisation may submit up to three deals with an MFV of USD700 million each, for the following categories:
1. Equity Market Deal of the Year; and
2. M&A Deal of the Year.
d. Deal of the Year is not open for nomination. The winners of deal category nos. 1-6 in Part IIIA will automatically become finalists for this category.
(2) Criteria. The evaluation of deals will be based on the following factors:
a. Complexity
b. Innovation/improvement
c. Breadth;
d. Impact/significance; and
e. Third-party awards/recognition.

(2) Criteria. The evaluation of entries for in-house categories will be based on the following factors:
a. Complexity;
b. Innovation/improvement;
c. Breadth;
d. Impact/significance; and
e. Third-party awards/recognition (when applicable).

(1) Specific Guidelines
a. All law firms based in SE Asia are qualified for any firm categories, except when the categories are jurisdictional.
b. No MFV is required for deals submitted for firm categories, except International Deal Firm of the Year.
c. Singapore Deal Firm of the Year is open for nomination only to domestic law forms in Singapore, which firms employ at least 20 lawyers and have completed at least 10 cross-border transactions, each with an MFV of USD200 million.
d. International Deal Firm of the Year is open for nomination only to international law firms with physical office in Singapore, which firms employ at least 20 lawyers and have completed at least 10 cross-border transactions, each with an MFV of USD200 million.
e. Law Firm of the Year is not open for nomination. The winners of firm category nos. 1-18 above will automatically become finalists for this category. Also, the winners for Indonesia Law Firm of the Year and Malaysia Law Firm of the Year will be included as finalists.
(2) Criteria. The evaluation of entries for firm categories will be based on the following factors:
a. Key hires/departures (when applicable);
b. Complexity;
c. Innovation/improvement;
d. Breadth;
e. Impact/significance;
f. Third-party awards/recognition;
g. No. of transactions completed (when applicable); and
h. Volume of completed transactions in USD (when applicable).
Part IV
JUDGING PANEL
The judging panel consists of the general and the special expertise panels. It is composed of approximately 40 reputable members from the legal academe, in-house teams, law firms, legal associations or business leagues, whose identities are kept confidential prior to the awarding ceremony.
The panel of judges will be given about one week to evaluate the accomplishments of nominees based on a research summary provided by ALB. The judges will select the top three finalists for every category. A score allocated by a judge to a finalist with which or with whom he has an apparent conflict of interest is considered void.
The finalist in every category who obtains the highest score wins.
