Baker & McKenzie has advised The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd on its $12.5 billion loan to Japanese beverage company Suntory Holdings for its recently completed acquisition of Beam, the maker of Jim Beam and Maker's Mark bourbons.
Tokyo partners Gavin Raftery and Shinichiro Kitamura led the Baker & McKenzie team, with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and Nishimura & Asahi advising Suntory as U.S. counsel and Japanese counsel, respectively.
The privately held Suntory bought U.S. spirits company Beam Inc earlier this year for 1.6 trillion yen ($13.6 billion) in Japan's third-biggest outbound deal ever, investment of which the company is expected to be able to recover in about 15 years, according to Reuters.
