ALB Korea Law Awards 2014 will be held on November 14, and will recognise the excellence and outstanding achievements of Korea's leading law firms and in-house legal teams as well as the top deals and dealmakers of 2013-2014.
The second annual Korean Law Awards will once again attract Korea's most influential solicitors, in-house counsel, investment bankers, judiciary and CEOs, who will assemble to celebrate with the winners as they accept their awards on stage. The event is the culmination of the months of intensive research that preceded this important event. Winner information remained confidential until the awards ceremony itself, where they will be revealed over a gala black-tie dinner.
Across Asia, the ALB Law Awards series is well established as the most important event on the legal industry calendar and we look forward to welcoming you in Korea in 2014.

Judges
Methodology
1) Parameters
- Law firms, in-house departments, banks and accountancy firms must be based or have physical offices in Korea.
- All deals must have a significant Korea element to qualify. (1. If the deal is signed in Korea; or 2. If the involved company is based in Korea; or 3. If the money of transaction is from Korea)
- Work completed and services provided within the period of 1 June 2013 through 31 May 2014.
2) Composition of Judging Panel
Over 25 in-house counsel, private practice lawyers and government officials will comprise the judging panel (Note: any judges involved in a specific deal or category are disqualified from voting for a related award category).
3) Guidelines
- Leading law firms and in-house legal departments are invited by e-mail to nominate across various categories.
- All nominations are made using only the nomination form provided.
- Nomination forms are strictly private and confidential and are shared only by the event organiser (the ALB) and the judging panel.
- The ALB team passes the nomination data to the external panel of judges, who examine the information and vote. The judges’ votes are aggregated to calculate the winner in each category.
- The judges' votes are independent of the ALB.
- The judges' votes are final.
- Self-nominations by organizations or individuals are accepted.

- Dealmaker of the Year
- Equity Market Deal of the Year
- M&A Deal of the Year
- Debt market deal of the Year
- Real Estate Deal of the Year
Criteria
- Size - the minimum financial value of the deal required for individual deal category
- Equity Market Deal of the Year: US$200million or above
- M&A Deal of the Year: US$500million or above
- Debt Market Deal of the Year: US$500million or above
- Real Estate Deal of the Year: US$200million or above
- Complexity - the degree to which the work required intricate legal principles or advanced techniques and structures
- Innovation/Improvement - the degree to which the work involved original techniques and structures or innovative legal rules and regulations/the degree to which the work involved improved techniques and structures or legal rules and regulations
- Breadth - the degree to which the deal spanned jurisdictions, practice areas, parties and industries
- TIMESCOPE - the major portion of the deal should be completed between 1 June 2013 to 31 May 2014 again, you should be certain what this means so you can explain it to people

- Banking and Financial Services Team of the Year
- TMT In House Team of the Year
- Construction In House Team of the Year
- In House Lawyer of the Year

- No. of transactions/deals/projects completed, successful cases handled, disputes settled and legal services provided within the organization
- The total volume of transactions in US$

- Team size (fee earners only)
- Key hires/departures
- Key work highlights and third party recognition, in the relevant practice area. This covers work leading up to 31st May 2014, but can include law firms who opened in Korea AFTER June 1st 2013
- Boutique Law Firm of the Year - Applicable only to Korean law firms which have no more than 40 fee earners.
- Overseas Practice Firm of the Year - International law firms who has a practice office in Korea and represented a Korean corporation for their oversea business.
- Managing Partner of the Year - Applicable only to managing partners who are based in Korea; we will only accept one nomination from each firm.
- Korea Deal Firm of the Year - Applicable only to domestic law firms with at least 10 completed cross-border transactions (from across all practice areas) from 1 June 2013 through 31 May 2014, with a minimum deal size of US$200 million.
