Linklaters has advised Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd on the launch of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect.
The team was led by Hong Kong partners Chin-Chong Liew, Teresa Ma, Stephen Fletcher and Umesh Kumar, with Shanghai partner Fang Jian supporting them.
The Stock Connect was launched on Nov. 17, with the stocks of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEx), Bank of China, Tencent, Swire Pacific LED and Aluminum Corp of China Ltd being the most actively traded on debut day. The first day also saw a remarkable amount of northbound investment, with Shanghai stock buying exceeding that of Hong Kong tenfold.
The Hong Kong-Shanghai direct link, designed to enable Chinese investors to trade securities listed on the KEx and overseas investors to trade in securities listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, could end up being the third-largest stock bourse in the world.
