ALB is pleased to announce that The Macallan will be the official event sponsor for the 12th annual ALB Hong Kong Law Awards 2013.
“We are very happy to work with ALB again, and to be a part of this event,” said William Chan, managing director of Edrington Hong Kong.
The Macallan ALB Hong Kong Law Awards 2013 will be held on Friday, Sep. 6 at the Conrad Hong Kong. The Aawards recognise the excellence and achievements of North Asia’s leading law firms and their lawyers, as well as in-house counsel.
Despite a difficult year due to China’s economic slowdown and uncertain markets elsewhere, the legal industry in North Asia has remained resilient. This is evident in both the size and quality of nominated deals for this year’s awards, as well as the eclectic mix of finalists.
Baker & McKenzie has received a total of 18 nominations – the most among law firms – while Mayer Brown JSM and local firm Vivien Chan & Co have 12 nods each. Meanwhile, Linklaters, Baker & McKenzie, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and King & Wood Mallesons are finalists in all deal category awards.
Leading the in-house pack is Morgan Stanley with six nominations, closely followed by UBS and Nomura with five each.
Looking ahead, Chan remains cautiously optimistic for the years to come. Despite a tough market, this is the key time for companies to keep investing in their brand, Chan adds. “It is the brand that makes you different to the consumer. For a consumer there are many choices, but whoever stands firm in a difficult time will show them the difference.”
