Over 100 in-house counsels across China and a wide range of sectors came together at the ALB In-house Legal Summit Shanghai 2010 earlier this month for a day of discussion, networking and learning.
One of the highlights on the day was the provocative panel discussion [presided by Shanda Games’ general counsel Thomas Yih]. Together with deputy general manager of the legal department in China Eastern Airlines (Hong Yuwen), deputy general secretary of the Shanghai Arbitration Commission (Huo Zhengmei) and general counsel of Danone China (Philip Gu), the panellists discussed eminent topics like the rise of local law firms, controlling legal fees, handling increasingly complex legal matters, managing cross-cultural relationships and the Foreign Corrupt Practice Act.
Other legal professionals from firms and companies also shared their knowledge during the workshop sessions. Partner at TransAsia Lawyers – Isabelle Wan – resolved many enquiries on how to deal with sensitive issues regarding employment disputes and industrial unrest. Control Risks’ director of corporate investigations for China – Ben Wootliff – presented on the developments in international corruption with a focus on APAC and Thomson Reuters, Legal, Chief Research and Academic Office, China, Wang Chang, talked about next-generation legal research.
While partners of Mori Hamada & Matsumoto – Shigeko Ishimoto and Yuto Matsumura – discussed Chinese Investment in Japan, four other partners from Global Law Office – David Fu, George Wang, Alan Zhou and Hai Huang – provided insight on M&A in China: its structures, issues and strategies.
Following the overwhelming success in Shanghai – part of an international series – the ALB In-House Legal Summit will be staged in Beijing (25 November 2010) for the seventh year. An extensive range of focuses practice area workshops are combined with interactive panel discussions and networking opportunities makes the ALB In-House Legal Summit Beijing 2010 “must attend” legal event of 2010.
