UK law firm Simmons & Simmons has opened a new office in the city of Shenzhen in Guangdong Province, its fourth in the Greater China area after Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Simmons is also a rare UK law firm to open an office in the southern Chinese city. Previous international entrants in Shenzhen have been smaller U.S. firms - Brinks Gilson & Lione opened in December 2017, and Fish & Richardson established a presence in January 2019. 

The office is being led by TMT partner Jingyuan Shi, who splits her time between Beijing and Hong Kong. The firm would not disclose details about how many other lawyers were in the office.

The firm says that the opening of the Shenzhen office reflects a response to China’s Greater Bay Area (GBA) plan. Simmons claims a well-established client base in Shenzhen, especially in the TMT sector, where it has helped companies address issues arising from GDPR and global data compliance, regulatory, competition, corporate transactions and commercial disputes, intellectual property, employment and compliance-related investigations.

西盟斯深圳办公室负责人为TMT业务合伙人史晶源律师，她将在北京和香港两地办公。西盟斯未透露深圳办公室目前的人员规模。

西盟斯表示，深圳办公室的设立是为了更好地参与并助力粤港澳大湾区的发展规划。西盟斯在深圳已拥有非常稳定的客户群，特别是在TMT领域极具竞争力，为客户提供GDPR监管和全球大数据合规、监管、竞争法、公司交易及商业纠纷、知识产权、劳动以及合规调查等方面服务。
