Six firms have collectively provided legal advice for the US$160m consortium investment for a minority stake in Shanghai-headquartered International Far Eastern Leasing Company, the leading provider of financial leasing in China and a subsidiary of Sinochem Group.

The investor consortium includes affiliates of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Government of Singapore Investment Corporation and China International Capital Corporation.

Commerce & Finance, Paul Weiss and Maples and Calder were legal advisors to KKR, GIC SI and CICC, while Paul Hastings, Tian Yuan and Walkers advised International Far Eastern Leasing.

The Paul Weiss team was led by partners John Lange and Jeff Samuels, Commerce & Finance partner Kang Yan advised the consortium on PRC law, and Maples and Calder's Anthony Webster acted as offshore counsel.

Paul Hastings partner Vivian Lam acted as deal counsel for Far Eastern along with a Tian Yuan team led by partner Zhu Xiaohui. A Walkers team led by Hong Kong hedge and PE fund partner Denise Wong, provided offshore legal advice.

The investment will support Far Eastern's move to capitalise on the potential in the underdeveloped financial leasing space in China.
