Washington, DC-headquartered Crowell & Moring is planning to open an office in Shanghai, its first overseas outpost in China, after hiring at least ten lawyers from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, including the latter firm’s Shanghai team.

The new hires include partners Nicole J. Simonian and Evan Yee-Fan Chuck, senior counsel Robert Clifton Burns, and counsel Jackson Pai in Los Angeles and Washington, DC; and a seven-member team in the Shanghai office will be led by partner Zhongdong Zhang. Zhang earlier served as the managing partner of the legacy Bryan Cave’s Shanghai office.

The new office will focus on cross-border transactional, investigative, policy, and regulatory needs. Crowell is currently in the process of applying for a foreign law firm license in Shanghai.

Chuck, who is also a former managing partner of Bryan Cave’s Shanghai office, will become head of Crowell’s Asia practice. 

Since its merger with Berwin Leighton Paisner, Bryan Cave has seen a slew of partners leaving the firm.

Chuck曾任英国博闻律师事务所上海办事处管理合伙人，在Crowell & Moring将担任该所亚洲业务的负责人。

英国博闻律师事务所自与BLP合并后，已有多位合伙人选择离开。
