PRC maritime legal heavyweight Wang Jing & Co ushered in the new year by elevating three lawyers to partnership effective Jan. 1, 2012. The newly appointed trio are John Wang Jun, Sun Hua and Xu Fubin.
The Guangzhou-headquartered firm, which won the honour of being ALB China’s Shipping Law Firm of the Year in 2011, believes this latest round of promotions will bolster its capabilities to advise on matters related to maritime trade, insurance, foreign direct investment, real estate, international trade, contract law, project structuring, and corporate mergers and acquisitions.
Two of the new partners, namely Sun and Xu, are based in the firm’s Tianjin office, and their promotions are being hailed as the branch’s step up to offer comprehensive legal services.
A 1993 graduate of Dalian Maritime University, Wang followed up his degree with a Master of Laws from the University of Southampton in 2004 where he pursued maritime law and shipping insurance law. A PRC licensed lawyer, Wang joined Wang Jing & Co in August 2006, and became the chief of the Admiralty Group 2 of the firm in 2010. He has previously worked at the Maritime Safety Administration of Zhuhai city in Guangdong, where he was involved in several investigations and rescue efforts to retrieve capsised liquidified gas vessels, and oil spill removal campaigns.
Wang was also responsible for drafting emergency plans to prevent oil spills and pollution by vessels in Zhuhai waters. He has extensive experience in advising on collision of vessels, grease and chemical spills over waters, shipping insurance, and rescue matters.
A PRC qualified lawyer since 2005, Sun earned his law degrees from Tianjin’s Nankai University, and the Chinese People’s Public Security University. He joined Wang Jing’s Tianjin office in 2007, and has since then been in charge of the firm’s national affairs department at the Tianjin Branch. Sun is adept at handling legal matters related to corporate, foreign investments, insurance disputes and investigations, real estate, international trade, contract law, and M&As.
A 1984 Dalian Marine Academy graduate, Xu joined Wang Jing’s Tianjin branch in 2010. He specialises in tort law, matters related to vessel collisions, pollution compensations, maritime traffic, shipping insurance, leasing and maritime arbitration, and international trade disputes. Xu earned his law degrees from Nankai University, and has previously worked at the Tianjin Maritime Court. ALB
