PRC firm JunHe has grown in Hong Kong after hiring corporate specialist Chris Tang as a partner from Latham & Watkins, where he was an associate.

Tang’s areas of expertise includes capital markets and corporate/M&A. He has represented issuers and certain investment banks in debt market transactions covering sectors such as chemicals, energy, construction, manufacturing, real estate and infrastructure.

The appointment of Tang comes at a time when Chinese law firms are growing their teams in Hong Kong by poaching eperienced lawyers from global law firms. In many cases, they are offering these lawyers a quicker path to partnership.

Last year, Haiwen & Partners hire Max Hua, an associate from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, as a corporate partner, and Zhong Lun Law Firm hired banking partner Joe Tam and his team from Mayer Brown JSM.

At present, there are nearly 30 PRC law firms in Hong Kong, and these are looking to expand further.
