Earlier this year, managing partner of Gaopeng & partners, Wang Lei, told ALB that he strongly believed quality lawyers were the lifeblood of a firm and that therefore the degree to which firms provided a dedicated platform for career development would directly affect their development.

Wang’s belief is manifest in further appointments to Gaopeng’s partnership, the most recent of which is that of criminal litigation specialist Guo Jinhui. Prior to his appointment at Gaopeng, Guo practised as partner at Beijing Jin Tuo.

“Gaopeng is reputed to have very high expectations of its practitioners. I have a lot of stepping up to do, especially in learning the operational regulations of the management. Despite the challenges, I believe that this is a great platform to further propel myself as partner,” said Guo, who will continue to focus on litigation and labour law.

Two months ago, the firm also appointed Fan Chao into senior partnership. Before joining Gaopeng, Fan was also senior partner at Beijing Zhongyi & Partners. Fan’s practice areas focus on real estate, finance, IP, international trade, mergers and capital markets. The firm also appointed US-qualified Stephen Lou as senior foreign counsel and Jiang Jianjun into partnership in its Shanghai office earlier this year.

Wang says that its recent appointments are part of its strategy to enhance professional strengths and customer relations.

In July this year, Gaopeng increased its international offerings by joining ALFA International, a global legal network comprised of 133 international law firms.
