DLA Piper has promoted seven new partners in Asia – two in China, three in Hong Kong and one each in Singapore and Tokyo. The promotions will take effect from 1 May 2011. The promotions in Asia are part of a round that sees 53 new partners joining its ranks.

The firm saw the largest intake of new partners in its litigation and regulatory group, with 14 promotions. Corporate and finance both saw 12 promotions each, followed by intellectual property & technology with nine promotions.

Partners who were promoted in Hong Kong include Edward Chatterton (IC&T), Jolyon Ellwood-Russell (finance & projects) and Brett Stewein (corporate).

Partners promoted in the firm’s Beijing office include Sammy Fang (litigation & regulatory) and Richard Wagerman (IC&T).

Biswajit Chatterjee, an Indian capital markets specialist poached from Allen & Overy’s Singapore office in 2008, worked in the capacity of legal director of DLA Piper’s Singapore office prior to his promotion to the partnership. Chatterjee is qualified in New York and in India.

Daniel Lee, a counsel based in firm’s Tokyo office has been promoted to the partnership. He heads up the firm’s Korea practice – having joined DLA Piper from Kim & Chang in Seoul, where he spearheaded its overseas investment practice. Prior to Kim & Chang, he was the General Counsel/Vice President at IBM Korea.ALB
