US firm Ropes & Gray has appointed Geoffrey Chan as a partner in its Hong Kong office. Chan, who will join the firm’s private investment funds group, comes to the firm from O’Melveny & Myers where he held the position of counsel. Chan’s appointment comes as the firm looks to bolster its resources ahead of its expected Shanghai debut later this year.

Chan’s practice  focuses on the creation of US dollar-denominated Chinese offshore funds and domestic RMB private investment funds. Prior to his time at  OMM, Chan worked for Merrill Lynch as a corporate finance investment banker.
