Following the appointment of new partner Don Williams from Wilson Sonsini, US firm Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton has added another member to its corporate practice in Shanghai. Jenny Liu, previously with DLA Piper's Beijing office for seven years, has joined the firm as a special counsel.
Liu represents Chinese emerging growth companies in a variety of issues ranging from licensing and employment to corporate restructuring and acquisitions. Her appointment is set to help expand the firm's network and presence in Beijing.
Sheppard Mullin opened its first overseas office in Shanghai in 2007. The office of 15 lawyers is currently managed by partner Todd Bissett, who joined the firm from O'Melveny & Myers last year. The firm's China strategy, according to Bisset, is to not only serve the needs of large clients but also focus on small-to-medium-sized foreign clients, whose legal needs are generally under-served in China.
