King & Wood has appointed intellectual property expert Dr.Jiang Zhipei as a senior consultant in its IP litigation group.
Jiang joins the firm from Fangda where he was also a consultant. Prior to his time at that firm, Jiang was a member of the Judicial Committee of the Supreme People's Court and a former Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court Intellectual Property Rights Tribunal. In addition to his judicial postings, Jiang participated in the drafting and amendment of the Chinese civil law, intellectual property law, and civil procedure law. He has edited and drafted many publications including: Intellectual Property Litigation, Internet and E-commerce Law and Post WTO Accession Intellectual Property Protection Research in China.
The founder of the Chinaiprlaw website, Jiang's contributions to IP law in China have seen him named among the "50 Most Influential People in IP" on several occassions. He was also named "the most outstanding contributor to IP protection in China" at the CAEFI Quality Brands 9th anniversary in 2009.
Ariel Ye, head of King & Wood's dispute resolution practice outlined the strategic importance of Jiang's hire, leaving opening the possibility that Jiang's appointment could be the first of many. "King & Wood has been focusing on the promotion and development of our Intellectual Property group," she said. "The addition of Mr. Jiang, a specialist with extensive IP litigation experience, will definitely enhance our team and promote the development of King & Wood’s IP legal services."
