Clyde & Co has appointed Gilbert Kwok as a partner in its Hong Kong office.   Kwok, who joins the firm from Stephenson Harwood, will be reunited with former colleague Ian Cocking at Clyde & Co. Cocking and Kwok were previously colleagues at UK firm Simmons & Simmons.

Kwok, who is regarded as one of most senior Chinese construction lawyers based in Hong Kong, has represented various Hong Kong and international real-estate developers and contractors in relation to infrastructure projects, commercial, hotel, casino, industrial and factory developments in the region.

Prior to Stephenson Harwood, Kwok was the founder and head of the construction group at Li & Partners and before that, was a consultant at Simmons & Simmons.

"As the Chinese government continues to implement its 'going global' strategy of encouraging Chinese companies to invest abroad, we are seeing an increasing number of Chinese and Asian contractors investing in infrastructure and construction projects around the world,” Cocking, head of Clyde & Co’s Hong Kong and China Construction Group, said, “I am particularly happy to welcome Gilbert as we have known each other for a long time and worked together closely for over 10 years. This is very much a reunion of an established and successful team."

Kwok’s appointment increases the total number of partners in the firm’s Hong Kong office to eight.   ALB
