DLA Piper has hired former King & Wood Hong Kong partner Robert Caldwell to join its Hong Kong and Greater China finance and projects team as partner. King & Wood Hong Kong was formerly known as Arculli Fong & Ng.

A finance specialist with deep experience in projects and structured finance transactions across Asia, Caldwell spoke on his appointment in a statement from the firm: “I am pleased to be joining the finance and projects team at DLA Piper. After seven years in one of mainland China’s leading local law firms, I now look forward to be able to draw on DLA Piper’s global reach and contribute to the firm’s expertise in finance and international projects from Asia.”

Caldwell has practised law for over 24 years in Australia, London and Hong Kong. He has worked with financial institutions and sponsors in projects, as well as in a range of sponsors on offshore and onshore fund establishments and their mainland investments. He has also worked on real estate financings, acquisition financings, debt restructurings and asset finance transactions.

“Robert’s expertise will help us develop a leading project finance practice in China and Asia. We envisage an increasing role in advising on China outbound transactions, and Robert will be able to leverage off the firm’s global network to advise on mainland China’s outbound investment activity in energy and natural resources projects around the world,” said Lance Miller, DLA Piper’s Asia regional managing director in a statement.
