Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has added partners Matthew Lewis and Seung Chong to its corporate team in Beijing and Hong Kong respectively. The two lawyers are capital markets and M&A specialists.

Formerly the legal head of global capital markets at Morgan Stanley, Lewis has handled high- profile listings including those of AIA Group, Samsonite, and the Agricultural Bank of China. Fluent in Mandarin, he will be based in Hong Kong initially before moving to the firm’s Beijing office.

Arriving from Proskauer Rose in Hong Kong where he had been for a year, Seung Chong will join Orrick’s M&A and private equity group. Prior to Proskauer Rose, he was a partner at White & Case.

Commenting on the firm’s recent hires, Edwin Luk, the head of the firm’s global capital markets practice, said in a statement: “As we continue developing our regional capital markets practice, particularly our integrated U.S. and Hong Kong securities capabilities, we are pleased to have someone with Matthew’s depth of experience, particularly from an in-house counsel’s perspective, joining us.”

Maurice Hoo, the head of Orrick’s global M&A and private equity group, added that “demand for Orrick’s cross border complex M&A services continues to grow, and we are delighted to be joined by Seung Chong, one of the most outstanding M&A lawyers in the region”. ALB
