Armstrong Teasdale has expanded its Asian practice in Shanghai through the addition of two partners, two associates, and a business consultant. Thomas Bottini, the firm’s new Shanghai office chief representative and international practice partner, will lead the expansion. In addition to Bottini, Armstrong has hired partner Steven Yu from CMS Cameron McKenna.

Bottini previously served as the chief representative of the firm’s Shanghai office from 2001 to 2003. His practice focuses on representing clients in manufacturing and outbound high- technology investments, establishing representations and distributorships abroad, and advising on legal, tax, and practical commercial elements in international trade and investment.

“Asia has consistently produced the highest rates of business growth for over a decade,” said Bottini. “A larger staff benefits clients not only in offering greater diversity in skill sets but also increased depth for handling larger client projects. “

Corporate specialist Yu is experienced in mergers and acquisitions, technology licensing, and international joint ventures. According to a statement from Armstrong, Yu was one of the first Chinese lawyers to advise Western clients on antitrust law.

“We are taking these initial steps in response to a steady influx of international transactional business and increasing opportunities for investments both in the United States and Asia,” said Michael Chivell, Armstrong Teasdale’s managing partner in a statement. “The explosive demand for legal services in this area, especially intellectual property, is the driver for allocating additional firm resources to Asia and adding more lawyers.” ALB
