White & Case Beijing has brought former Beijing-based Dewey & LeBoeuf partner Tao Lan on board as its new M&A partner.
Tan has worked with Chinese state-owned enterprises and multinational companies on their M&As across a broad range of sectors including telecommunications, manufacturing, banking, facility and hotel management, and media. He counts energy giants CNPC, CNOOC and Sinopec as clients, having advised them on major outbound transactions in emerging markets.
Speaking on the development, Alex Zhang, the head of White & Case’s China M&A practice, said in a statement: “Tao Lan is a terrific addition to our China M&A team. His sector experience and skills will provide a boost to our leading M&A practice in China.”
Lan is a Chinese national, with an LLB from the People’s University of China and a JD from the St. Louis University School of Law. He is admitted to the New York State Bar.
Commenting on Lan’s joining, White & Case’s China practice head Xiaoming Li said: “We are finding that our Chinese clients seeking outbound investment opportunities require partners on the ground in China with both language skills and the ability to readily connect with our large, global network of M&A lawyers.” He continued by saying: “Our solid China platform, combined with our strength in New York and London as well as Latin America, Africa and other emerging economies, is important to many of our clients. Tao Lan adds further depth to this offering, and we are very pleased to have him on board.”
