Baker & McKenzie announced recently that it has appointed Paul Tan as the new managing partner of its Hong Kong, China and Vietnam offices. He succeeds Poh Lee Tan, who has held the position since late 2010.

A corporate and employment specialist, Paul Tan has been with Baker & McKenzie for 20 years. He began as an associate at the firm’s Sydney office, then relocated to join the Hong Kong office in 1985. Joining the equity partnership in 1991, Tan is admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong, England and Wales and New South Wales.

Tan was the former managing partner of the Bakers Hong Kong, China and Vietnam offices from 1997 to 1998. In addition to other firm management roles, he has also been the vice president of the Law Society of Hong Kong, chairman and a member of different government appeal boards and advisory committees.

Commenting on the appointment, the chairman of Baker & McKenzie’s Hong Kong, China and Vietnam offices, Lawrence Lee said: “Poh Lee Tan’s leadership, commitment and passion has seen our offices consolidate and build on Baker & McKenzie’s position as the premier global law firm in the Greater China and Vietnam markets. We are delighted that Paul Tan is taking over this important role.  I am confident that he will further expand and build on the fantastic platform that we have in the region, and continue to grow our strategic offerings to meet the changing business and legal needs of our clients.”
