Kirkland & Ellis has strengthened its Hong Kong M&A practice with the hire of partner Frank Sun from Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.

Sun, who was an associate at Kirkland & Ellis’ New York office from 2007 to 2008, specialises in M&A and private equity across Asia. He has worked with several blue-chip clients in recent years including the Carlyle Group, KKR, Morgan Stanley Private Equity, CCB International, CITIC Capital, Silver Lake, and Temasek.

“Frank’s extensive experience in complex private equity and M&A transactions adds substantial horsepower to our already extensive China capabilities,” said Kirkland & Ellis’ Hong Kong corporate partner, David Zhang, in a statement.

The firm’s Hong Kong and Shanghai offices have over 65 lawyers who advise clients on M&A, private equity, banking and finance, capital markets, intellectual property, government investigations, and tax issues.
