Eyeing lucrative cross-border deals, Longan has been actively recruiting international specialists to further boost its global capabilities.

The firm has recently hired Microsoft specialist Alan Boyd and mining expert Russ Philips to join its team as senior counsels. Boyd, who has developed many household products for Microsoft, is widely recognised as a pioneer in personal computing.  And Philips joins the firm from Nixon Peabody where he is vice president in charge of China-India business developments. Prior to joining Nixon, he was Chinese business representative for Anglo Coal Australia. Philips’ duties will include assessing the development, model designed and management of mining transactions.

Earlier this year, the firm hired American criminal defence lawyer Alan as foreign legal counsel. Ellis was the former president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (US).

Longan was recently featured in the ALB China Fast 10 2009, having launched new offices in Guangzhou and Nanjing earlier this year. The Shenzhen office was also expanded significantly through two acquisitions, and the opening of the Nanjing office marked the first of six intended openings for the near future. According to the firm’s development roadmap, new offices in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Tianjin, Chengdu and Hong Kong will also be set up in the coming years.
