U.S. firm Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson recently recruited former Herbert Smith partner Carolyn Sng to shore up its Hong Kong office’s corporate capabilities.
Sng joins the firm as partner, and is adept at complex corporate matters ranging from mergers and acquisitions, to restructurings and private equity transactions. She has acted on several landmark transactions, including advising the $2 billion senior notes offering from CNOOC, the Hong Kong subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Corp, in 2011 at the Hong Kong bourse.
Licensed to practice in England and Hong Kong, Sng joined Herbert Smith in 2004 and rose to partnership in 2008.
Her addition comes close on the heels of Fried Frank’s hiring of two other private equity lawyers, Douglas Freeman and Victor Chen, from O’ Melveny & Myers last year as partners in its corporate practice.

Fried Frank has been active in Hong Kong’s IPO market over the past year, most notably for advising on American luxury handbag retailer Coach Inc’s debut offer of Hong Kong depositary receipts at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange last December. ALB
