Tianjin-based Winners Law Firm has urged law firms to participate in corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities at the Lawyers Associated Worldwide (LAW) Asia-Pacific annual session that was held in Tianjin on March 9 and 10.

During the CSR-themed session, Winners said that law firms, in adherence to professional ethics, should take on more responsibilities including charity and environmental activities. Winners also said that law firms must focus on employee wellbeing, and promote justice through upgraded service.

“As a distinctive feature of our profession, the CSR of law firms has more content such as pursuing the spirit of nomocracy, upholding the dignity of the law, and protecting social justice,” said Winners partner Bai Xianyue in an interview with ALB.

Apart from efforts to improve the working condition of its own lawyers, law firms could donate to children’s medical funds and promote a low-carbon lifestyle. According to Bai, the firm has actively participated in free legal aid campaigns and joint student training schemes with law schools.

“Additionally, the more we work on improving our professional practices and client services, the better we carry out the CSR of a law firm,” he said.

In 2007, Winners joined the LAW, a Swiss-based international association with 110 member firms focusing on the mid range market across 170 jurisdictions. Winners is one of the organisation’s nine members in the greater China region, while Bai has been a global executive member since 2009.

The meeting, where themes such as law firm management, anti-bribery and digital data protection were discussed, had over 40 attendees from the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. ALB
