Hong Kong commercial law firm CWL Partners has hired partner Kelly Wong and consultant David Allison to bolster its insurance and intellectual property practices, respectively.

Wong has over 17 years experience working with insurance companies and policy holders. She has represented insurers on contentious matters including casualty, property and product liability claims, and related policy disputes.

“Kelly’s arrival at CWL Partners combined with our existing practices in corporate and regulatory work means that we now have an insurance practice group that can provide more in-depth and focused services for insurance industry clients,” said Cheng Hoo, a founding partner of the firm.

Previously head of IP at Laracy & Co in Hong Kong, Allison has managed disputes surrounding all areas of IP, including patents, copyright, trademarks and designs. Commanding complete fluency in Mandarin, Allison specialises in contentious IP disputes, and the enforcement of IP rights in both Hong Kong and China. He also handles trademark prosecution work in the region.

“Whilst CWL Partners has already been recognised as a key player in the patent space, David’s addition brings a dedicated capability in handling complex intellectual property disputes,” said Kenneth Wong, another founding partner of the firm, in a statement. “This added capability allows CWL Partners to provide its clients with a full range of IP services, both contentious and non-contentious.”

CWL Partners operates in associated with U.S. firm Nixon Peabody, and China’s Hylands Law Firm.
