Clyde & Co has announced the launch of a Beijing office, its third in China, after having received approval from Chinese authorities for the same.

Currently, the firm has five partners and 20 other legal staff in Shanghai with 11 partners and 38 other legal staff in Hong Kong.

Clyde & Co’s Beijing office will work closely with its Shanghai and Hong Kong offices apart from its seven other offices across Asia, and will focus on outbound investment in the natural resources, energy and infrastructure sectors. The new office will also work on asset and project finance, in addition to international arbitration and dispute resolution.

“Our client base in China has transformed significantly in the past two to three years … The majority of these Chinese clients, particularly the state-owned enterprises, are headquartered in Beijing and, therefore, our on-the-ground presence will help us provide more effective and seamless service to our clients there,” said Ik Wei Chong, Asia-Pacific board member and chief representative of the Shanghai office, in a statement while explaining the importance of the firm’s presence in Beijing.

Corporate partner Lynia Lau has been named the chief representative of the Beijing office. Being experienced in handling outbound investments by Chinese state-owned groups, she will oversee the development of business in the Chinese capital.
