K&L Gates has hired corporate lawyer Ian Liao in Shanghai from Jones Day and disputes lawyer Glenn Cheng from Nabarro in Singapore.

With his practice focused on M&A and VC deals, Liao represents public and private companies in their M&A, divestitures, and equity purchase transactions and concentrates on cross-border technology transactions. He has advised in the Internet and e-commerce space, and acts for high-tech companies including start-ups and pre-IPO stage companies on their fundraising activities.

Cheng’s practice focuses on cross-border arbitration in the areas of construction, oil and gas, civil and marine engineering, on- and off-shore infrastructure, general engineering, and building projects. He is regularly involved in projects, contractual claims, and formal dispute proceedings variously as advisor, counsel, and arbitrator.

“We are excited to kick off 2016 with stellar additions to our Asia practice,” said David Tang, K&L Gates’ Asia managing partner, in a statement. “The new partners in Shanghai and Singapore reflect our vision for the Asia practice this year, particularly in extending our technology and e-commerce practice in this region, and in further bolstering our construction disputes capabilities in Asia.”

K&L Gates currently has more than 100 lawyers, including 46 partners, across its Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei, Tokyo, Seoul, and Singapore offices.
