XU is a practicing lawyer qualified in Ontario (Canada), England and Wales (UK) and Hong Kong (China). Before joining Sunshine Law Firm, he worked as an associate in Toronto office of Smith Lyons, Torrance, Stevenson & May, and with Lovell White Durrant 's Hong Kong office, and as an associate and partner at Clifford Chance Hong Kong office.

XU specializes in company law, commercial law, international trade law and project financing, mergers and acquisitions, and has been actively involved in a large number of foreign investment projects in China since 1995, covering a wide variety of businesses ranging from electricity, oil and natural gas, chemicals, mining and transportation to telecommunication, manufacturing and services.
