Perkins Coie has hired Johnny Chiu as a partner in its intellectual property practice in Beijing from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft in Washington.

He acts for Asia clients in U.S. patent disputes and other litigation matters. Chui also advises Asia-based companies on creating and operating U.S. subsidiaries or affiliates and on U.S. regulatory and compliance matters.

Chiu is the latest in a string of departures from Cadwalader since the firm decided to close its offices in Beijing and Hong Kong by the end of the year, effectively pulling out of Asia. In January, China managing partner Rocky Lee and his entire team decamped to King & Wood Mallesons, while Jane Ng in Hong Kong moved to Stephenson Harwood. Last December, Hong Kong partner Jeffrey Maddox returned to Jones Day after a four-year stint at Cadwalader.
