U.S. firm Kaye Scholer has snapped up former Debevoise & Plimpton Shanghai office head and corporate counsel Niping Wu to  join its corporate team based in Shanghai as partner.

Admitted in New York and Hong Kong, M&A specialist Wu offers private equity and strategic investment advice to Chinese corporations and multinational companies. Wu has also represented clients in capital markets deals, including U.S. public and institutional offerings by non-U.S. issuers.

“While the global market continues to face challenges, private equity has remained one of the bright spots in the investing world,” said Mike Solow, managing partner of Kaye Scholer, in a statement. “Niping’s arrival enables us to provide equally strong capabilities in China and throughout the Asia- Pacific.”

Speaking on the development, Shanghai office head and partner Yingxi Fu-Tomlinson said: “[Wu] arrives at a time when we are rapidly expanding the scope of in and outbound projects we are doing in the Asia-Pacific, particularly private equity and fund work, and are experiencing a change in our client pool to include more Chinese companies.” ALB
