Jones Day partner Jingzhou Tao has joined Dechert as the managing partner responsible for developing the firm’s Asia practice. Prior to joining Jones Day in 2007, Tao was managing partner of DLA Piper’s Beijing office.
Tao, who will work in the firm’s International Arbitration and Corporate & Securities practice, has spent more than 25 years advising both Chinese and foreign companies on international arbitration, trade disputes and M&A, as well as joint ventures, intellectual property protection, corporate restructuring and strategic planning.
Tao’s background in international arbitration includes experience gained through working as both counsel and arbitrator. He is currently a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), and the Advisory Committee of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission. He is also chair of the Commission on International Commercial Arbitration of ICC in China, and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Tao is also an arbitrator for arbitration centres in China, Hong Kong, America, Singapore and Malaysia. His arbitration experience extends to working for the Court of Arbitration for Sport, including arbitration for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Ad Hoc Division.
Tao, a graduate of both Peking University and the University of Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne), is admitted to legal practice in China and France.
