Singapore powerhouse Allen & Gledhill continued its impressive award-winning streak by bagging a slew of gongs at the Marina Bay Financial Centre ALB SE Asia Law Awards 2012, which also saw Stephenson Harwood pick up the prestigious SE Asia Deal of the Year award.

The event, held on May 11 at Singapore’s Shangri-la Hotel, saw Allen & Gledhill pick up the Construction Law Firm of the Year, the Marina Bay Financial Centre Award Real Estate Law Firm of the Year, the Tax and Trusts Law Firm of the Year and the Singapore Deal Firm of the Year awards. The firm was also involved in the deals that won the Project Finance Deal of the Year, the Debt Market Deal of the Year, the Equity Market Deal of the Year, the SE Asia M&A Deal of the Year, the IPP Financial Advisers Pte Ltd Award for Singapore M&A Deal of the Year and the Singapore Deal of the Year.

Stephenson Harwood won the SE Asia Deal of the Year award, and also the Asset and Corporate Finance Deal of the Year award for the work it did on Lion Air’s $22 billion-dollar order for aircraft from Boeing. "We are delighted to have been selected by the distingushed panel of judges for both the Asset Finance deal and the SE Asia deal of the year for 2012. Our role as lead counsel to the Lion Air order of 230 Boeing Aircraft worth over US$22 billion, was one of the most challenging mandates we have had so far," said Paul Ng, global head of aviation at the firm. "Stephenson Harwood is delighted to have been part of the transaction and would like to thank our client, Lion Air for entrusting us with this landmark transaction."

Rajah & Tann won the Singapore Shipping Law Firm of the Year, and its managing partner Lee Eng Beng SC picked up the Marina Bay Financial Centre Award for Managing Partner of the Year. “It is a great honour to receive this award,” said Lee. “But it is not only my work that is being recognised, but the work of all my colleagues. They have never flinched from hard work or challenges. As one team, we are dedicated to delivering the highest standard of legal service to our clients across Asia.”

Meanwhile, Drew & Napier won the Commercial Litigation Law Firm of the Year for the eighth successive year. “It is a tremendous honour to be named Commercial Litigation Law Firm of the Year for eight consecutive years,” said Jimmy Yim SC, managing director of dispute resolution at Drew and Napier. “This award would not have been possible without the talent at all levels in Drew, and reflects the continued confidence that our peers and clients have in us.”

On the in-house side, previous winner CapitaLand won the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association Award for the Singapore In-House Team of the Year. But the biggest winner in the in-house space was Morgan Stanley, which won the Investment Bank In-House Team of the Year and the Singapore In-House Lawyer of the Year (for Sok-Theng Cheng), apart from being involved in the deals that won the Equity Market Deal of the Year and the IPP Financial Advisers Pte Ltd Award Singapore M&A Deal of the Year.
