Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe has hired Ya-Chiao Chang as a partner in the firm’s intellectual property practice in Beijing.

Chang was hired from Kirkland & Ellis, where he was a co-founding partner of the Beijing office.

Chang advises clients on complex IP issues, with a focus on U.S. patent litigation. His experience covers litigation regarding technology-related patents in digital TV, semiconductor and liquid crystal display, wireless communications, integrated circuit design, among others. He also provides guidance on resolving patent disputes between companies in Asia, Europe and the US.

“Representation of Asia-origin tech and electronics companies is a real focus for Orrick, and comprises about a third of our patent litigation practice,” said Mark Wine, co-chair of Orrick’s patent practice, in a statement.

“We are thrilled to add to our bench a lawyer with Ya-Chiao’s credentials and deep knowledge of the issues that are most important to these clients.”

Chang is the latest addition to Orrick’s Beijing office, after the U.S. firm recruited corporate partner Ning Zhang from O’Melveny & Myers in July.
