Richmond, Virginia-based law firm McGuireWoods has entered into an alliance with Shanghai-headquartered FuJae Partners, with both firms agreeing to work with each other in China and other strategic international markets.

FuJae, which began operations on Dec. 1, is a new player in China’s legal market. It was founded by three former JunHe lawyers: corporate partner Richard Yao, corporate and tax expert David Liu and intellectual property specialist Guangming Liu. The recently launched firm advises state-owned enterprises as well as private Chinese companies and foreign businesses in China.

“Through this alliance, our clients gain access to the significant resources of a leading global firm, including a deep pool of talented U.S. and EU legal professionals with a wide range of capabilities and a wealth of experience. We are confident this arrangement will benefit the clients of both firms,” said Yao, FuJae’s chair, in a statement.
