Chengdu-headquartered Tahota Law Firm has opened a liaison office in Sydney under the name of Tahota Law Sydney. This is Tahota’s fifth overseas office and its 17th office overall.
Tahota Law Sydney is Tahota’s first liaison office overseas, and was opened in conjunction with local firm MDW Law. Unlike its four other overseas offices in Hong Kong(China), Washington, Seoul, and Busan, this office will be able to provide a full suite of services, including advice on Australian law, through MDW Law.
Sydney-headquartered MDW Law, founded in 2014 by partners Matthew Watson and Marc Chiarella, is a mid-sized firm that focuses on financial insurance, trust, litigation, merger and acquisition. It also has experts on compensation in personal injury, inheritance, marriage law, labor and employment.
The liaison office is expected to serve as a bridge that helps Tahota better service Chinese companies in Australia on investment and financing, M&A and IPO, and Australian companies doing business in China.
The office has 15 associates, including five partners: Tina Hua, Marc Chiarella, Matthew Watson, Luke Spartalis, and Rob Webb.
Hua heads the Sydney office and has experience in commercial litigation, corporate matters, dispute resolution, real estate development and immigration. She has acted for Chinese enterprises in Australia in the sectors of IPO, education, nursing, entertainment, agriculture, mining and finance.
