The one-of-a-kind Macallan ALB Hong Kong Law Awards is returning for its 18th edition this year. It will be held on Sept. 6 at the JW Marriott Hong Kong. As in other years, the annual event will give recognition to the outstanding legal practitioners, top law firms and most important deals from within and around Hong Kong.
This year, more than 120 law firms and in-house teams have entered submissions, and we have seen fierce competition in several categories. The most keenly contested one is Woman Lawyer of the Year with 39 nominees, while 30 and 22 nominations have been received for the Taylor Root Award Young Lawyer of the Year and Technology, Media and Telecommunications Law Firm of the Year respectively.
The firms leading the nominations are Baker McKenzie, Herbert Smith Freehills, King & Wood Mallesons, and Mayer Brown, with all of the finalists in more than 15 categories.
On the in-house side, corporates such as COSCO Shipping Ports, MTR Corporation, Telstra International and Uber Technologies have the most nominations.
This year’s event has seen a number of new joiners, including law firms Campbells, Carey Olsen, Jonathan Mok Legal, Ella Cheong, Hugill & Ip, LC Lawyers, and Swartz Binnersley & Associates; and in-house teams from China Merchants Securities, Emperor Group, Kerry Logistics, Klook, Agile Group, and ICBC International.
Our panel of judges comprises more than 30 esteemed individuals from legal academia, in-house teams, law firms, legal associations and non-profit organisations in the region. The finalists with the highest score in each category will win the award, with the results being revealed on the night of the event.
