PRC firm Fangda Partners has poached a four-member capital markets team from Shearman & Sterling in Hong Kong led by Colin Law, who headed that practice for Asia at his previous firm.
Law’s team includes Hong Kong partner Peter Chen, a counsel and an associate. Both Law and Chen joined Shearman from O’Melveny & Myers in 2010 during an IPO boom in Hong Kong.
Law specializes in securities and M&A transactions. He advises clients on international public offerings, takeovers of public companies, privatization, regulatory matters, and debt capital markets transactions, also acts for major private equity houses and multinational companies doing business in China with a focus on the healthcare, biotech and media sectors.
Chen’s area of focus is on corporate issues, M&A and corporate finance transactions. He represents leading corporate and major financial institution clients in a broad range of industries including healthcare, gaming, technology, telecom, financial services and consumer products sectors.
The two hires are just the latest in a list of high-profile poaches by Fangda from international firms. It previously landed King & Wood Mallesons Asia head Zili Shao, and former Linklaters China head Fang Jian. More recently, the firm nabbed U.S. securities specialist Christine Chen in Hong Kong from KWM.
As Hong Kong is on track to top the global IPO market with increasing numbers of technology IPOs from the mainland, the addition of the new team will not only bulk up Fangda’s capital markets practice, but also expand its Hong Kong headcount to 24, according to the figures on the firm’s website.

随着香港有望成为全球最大的IPO市场，也有越来越多的中国科技企业赴港上市，此次谢尔曼▪思特灵律师事务所香港资本市场团队的加盟必将进一步增强方达在资本市场的实力。根据方达官网的数据显示，方达香港办公室的律师总数将达至24人。
